For those of you who are thinking, “Death what? Death Cafe? What is that? Why would anyone go?”. It’s a fair question and the simple answer is that it is an evening (or afternoon) of people from all walks of life, who gather together and talk about death related topics. Some people identify themselves as, “Death curious”, others are there because they’re horribly afraid of death and are working on coming to terms with that fear, others are involved in the death care industry and see the need to have safe and healthy conversations with people and some have just been dragged there by their friends and would never have considered attending otherwise!
So, if you’re wondering where and when other Death Cafes are being held, here’s a list of some of the upcoming ones:
North Vancouver 2018 dates:
Tuesdays: January 16, February 20, March 20, and April 17 at the Mt. Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate in North Vancouver at 7:00 – 8:30 pm with Catherine Tremblay.
Dear friends,It feels like we have been confronted to strong images of death and dying, destruction and suffering in recent months. I am thinking of the hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, the shooting in Las Vegas, the fires in California, the earthquake in Mexico, ISIS attacks, wars, fentanyl overdoses, and everything else that’s happening across the globe, and on which we have no control. So, how are we coping with the prospect of our own mortality and the mortality of our loved ones? Isn’t interesting to notice how we are surrounded by images of destruction and suffering and how very little we speak about their impact on our own inner world? For me, having open and honest conversations on death and dying is so important. How can we find peace in the midst of chaos if we are incapable of talking about the thoughts and emotions that it may trigger in us?I am inviting you to join me for our Death Cafés.Looking forward to seeing you there!Much love,Catherine
