Our friend & comrade, Connie, died recently at VGH after a lengthy struggle with multiple maladies, predominantly Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born (September 1948) and raised in Edmonton. Connie was 77.
Connie had a social work degree from the University of Alberta. She worked as a social worker in the City of Surrey for years and loved and was good at her job. She had gotten her degree at the University of Alberta. By accident she began working with teens and found she had a real knack with teenagers!
There, after two previous husbands, she met the love of her life, Bob Colman, (also a social worker) and with whom she had a few very happy years until he died after a brief bout of pancreatic cancer. After a time she cared also for her mother Phyllis Jock in her end of life journey until her death. They were always very close!
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 5th at the Canadian Memorial United Church, 1802 W.15th Ave., Vancouver. Parking is available at the Canadian Memorial Centre for Peace on 1825 W.16th Ave., adjacent to the church and on the surrounding side streets. After the service, her ashes will be placed in the sweet garden on the west side of the church next to her mother who is also buried there.
When I get to the end of the road and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free !?!
