It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Hamilton (née Haynes),
age 83, on October 23, 2026. After a brave fight with cancer, Diane passed away
peacefully, with grace, courage, and dignity, surrounded by her family.
Diane is survived by her husband, Ted; her children, Launa (Doug), Cindy (Scott), and
Robin (Ian); her grandchildren, Alicia (Lewis), Nathan, Liam, and Savannah (Mitch); and
her great grandchildren, Sierra and Andelaine. She is also survived by her stepson,
Tyler (Veesha), and their children, Kairi and Keir.
Diane was born to William and Ethel Haynes and enjoyed a happy childhood in
Vancouver’s Riley Park neighbourhood. Diane grew up surrounded by extended family,
including her beloved cousins, with whom she shared many wonderful times and lasting
memories. Throughout her life, Diane cherished her lifelong friends and was equally
grateful for the new friendships she made along the way.
Diane enjoyed a long and fulfilling career. She worked as an executive assistant for
many years at GE/Gescan, Lions Gate Hospital, UBC Orthopedics, as well as other
major corporations.
Many decades ago, Diane discovered genealogy and delighted in tracing family
histories, finding long lost relatives, and uncovering the unexpected stories of those who
came before her. For Diane, the past never quite finished revealing itself.
Diane and Ted shared a love of travel and adventure. Together, they cruised to Alaska,
through the Panama Canal, and around the Caribbean. They explored Europe,
including Paris, Rome, and Venice, and enjoyed many other adventures.
Some of Diane’s happiest moments were spent closer to home, particularly with her
grandchildren. She treasured the time she spent with each of them individually, whether
sharing a simple afternoon together or setting off in search of vintage clothing.
We take comfort in knowing that Diane was ready to go to her place among the stars.
We will cherish our memories of her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, and friend.
Diane leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and friends who shared a lifetime of
memories with her.
Diane’s final wish was: “Just whisper my name and I will be there in your heart.”
