1944 – 2025

Janet Paterson (nee van Druten), wife of the late Bob Paterson, died peacefully at home on March 22nd. Janet was born in Victoria, BC, spending her childhood and youth in Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo. Eventually she moved to Burnaby to teach and there she met and married Bob on March 29th, 1976. They settled into their beloved Vancouver home in 1982.

Janet was strong, vivacious, determined and joyful, keeping her signature spark up until the end. She was a generous giver of big hugs, welcoming everyone toward her. Janet loved to host. She always had the right decoration stored away for each occasion. She was a good listener, a trusted confidante and a cherished friend, always ready to share a piece of wisdom, advice or specific opinion about most topics. She loved spending time in her garden and at her cabin. She was a dedicated and loving mother and in her later years, she took great joy in her grandchildren.

Janet was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church. Her Christian faith, nurtured in her from a young age by her parents, was integral to who she was. It guided and sustained her through both the joys and challenges of life and encouraged many others along the way.

Janet is survived by her children Scott, Stephannie and Susan, son-in-law Matthew and granddaughters Anna, Emma and Cora.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 10th at 2 pm at First Baptist Church Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation in Janet’s name to Union Gospel Mission.
