Lynne Timermanis

A Life of Grace and Style: Remembering Lynne Timermanis (née Marion Lynne Gawley)

Lynne Timermanis passed away peacefully at home September 14th, at the age of 83, after a stoic battle with cancer. She will be remembered for her strength, elegance, and presence, as well as the life she built with her late husband, Ludis, her love and life partner to whom she was married for nearly 50 years.

Lynne was a devoted mother to her daughter Lisa, cheerleader to son-in-law Billy, and a proud Nana to her grandsons, Ben and Nic, with whom she shared an unshakable bond. She was a mentor and friend to many, offering guidance and warmth with her signature sparkle. These are relationships she greatly valued.

Her journeys carried her from Toronto to Windsor, Grimsby, and Cobourg, and later out west to Duncan, Victoria, and finally North Vancouver, where she made her home close to her daughter’s family.

She was always a gifted organizer, and a true creative, in work and life and then at the age of 48 ventured off to England to become a professional cook.

During her 20 plus years as a professional cook, Lynne didn’t just make meals—she made magic. She fed people with her hands and with her heart, creating events with meaning, taught in kitchens where friendships were shared, laughter echoed, and seconds were always encouraged. From croquembouches to croquettes, her kitchen was her kingdom, and anyone lucky enough to sit at her table knew they were in the hands of a creator.

Lynne was that kind of woman: unforgettable, unapologetic, and entirely herself. She was the definition of presence—a woman who entered the room already knowing she looks good, feels good and is going to do some good – she would size up the room, make a mental note on everyone and mention exactly how the meal could have a had a bit more salt…

As a mother, Lynne’s legacy is deeply personal and deeply proud. She and her daughter Lisa were each other’s greatest champions—as confidantes, co-creators, and strong independent entrepreneurial women. Over the years, she’s become a second mother, a wise elder, and a generous role model to so many women who gathered in kitchens or house parties. She, taught them to cook, shared her stories, her standards, her wit, and her warmth. And as a friend, Lynne was unmatched. To her oldest friends, she was a history book wrapped in laughter and chatter—someone who remembers , who shows up every time, and keeps confidences like a treasure. To her newer friends, met through travel, shopping, pottery, and chance encounters, she became a spark of connection. She brought laughter, curiosity, and depth to every conversation. Whether 40 years in or just four months, being her friend was a gift—and one that always came with a good story and maybe a gentle critique, and always a glass of wine.

Lynne’s life has been rich with purpose, but more than that—it’s been felt. She has touched lives, lifted spirits, and left her mark in meals, in moments, in memories. She lived with taste and tenacity and built a life that was both beautiful and bold.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the team of nurses from the North Shore of Vancouver Seymour Team whose care and compassion allowed Lynne to remain at home. Her legacy is one of love, beauty, and presence, carried on by her family and all those whose lives she enriched.

Dear Lisa, Ben and Nic – I’m so very sorry to hear of your Mom/Grandma’s passing – she was a most unique, special, diamond of a human being. I first met this multi-talented fine woman in 1977 when I was EA to your Dad/Grandpa at Life Savers. The hime she created for Lou and Lisa was exceptional – welcoming, warm, exquisite, full of love and laughter. I remember well the weekly special Friday nights “taking my girls out for dinner”

I am so grateful we re-connected a few years ago and shared our beautiful memories of friendship and love reigniting many long ohone calls filled with laughter.

I just know the amazing memories you all have of her will warm your hearts and soothe your souls for many, many years.

    Kindest regards,
    Darlene
