On May 30, 2023 our eldest sister died of cancer. She was surrounded by love.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Sherry lived her life in Vancouver from a young age. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help grades 1 – 12., St. Paul’s School of Nursing where she obtained Registered Nurse training (1970) and UBC for her BScN. Her career in nursing spanned over 40 years, many of which she spent caring for those most vulnerable in Vancouver’s downtown east side.

Sherry found joy in healing touch, drumming, music, painting and time spent with friends and family. Her life was richly spiritual.

Predeceased by parents Anna and Stan Smith and nephew Anthony Smith. Sherry is survived by siblings, Wayne (Kathy Pettigrew), Kathy Scheideman (Don), Debra Nothstein (Raymond), Pamela, and Roger (Karen), and Uncle Al Bombardieri. Also survived by 7 nephews and 10 grand nieces and nephews.

The family extends deep gratitude for the community of friends who supported and helped Sherry in her life, particularly in her last, difficult months.

A graveside service and reception will be held on Friday, June 23rd from 12:30 – 4:00 pm at Heritage Gardens Cemetery 19082 16th Ave., Surrey, BC.

Donations to the BLOOM Group in Sherry’s name to support the Cottage Hospice and other community supportive projects would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for the pictures. I especially loved the one of your mother and Sherry as a baby, and the one of a your mother and Sherry when she was a young woman. I know you will miss having her in your life. I am sorry I do not think I will be able to attend the funeral. I will look up the Bloom group and send a donation.

Love to you and your family,
    Carmie and children

My sincere condolences on Sharen’s passing. We use to walk home together during high school (we were Grade 1-12 students at OLPH) and she lived two blocks from my family home. Her life certainly reflected the quiet, sincere and well intentioned young woman from high school. I wish you the peace and love of your faith and family to see you through this sad time. May Sharen rest in peace.
