It is with great sadness and enduring love, that we announce the passing of Sheena Ann Vivian. Sheena was brought into this world on Wednesday January 3rd, 1962 in Winnipeg and she left us on August 29th after fighting a valiant battle against breast cancer, at the age of 64.

Sheena and her brother Allan were raised in Kamloops BC by her Scottish parents Agnes and Allan Halliday (both now deceased). At 21 she met the man she would marry, Paul, on the dance floor of a Kamloops night club and their love story would endure for 43 years.

Sheena later gave birth to two beautiful children, Graeme and Laura, and settled in the Surrey/Langley area where she became deeply involved in her community, volunteering with St John’s Ambulance, Junior Achievement, Rotary, her children’s’ pipe bands, and any other organization she came across that she felt might benefit from her talents.

 Sheena initially worked a variety of careers, ranging from selling paging (!) services for her mother’s company, real estate agent, sales manager for a battery analyzer company and similar positions in the mobile communication industry. She eventually found her calling in Emergency Management, working in a leadership role for the City and Township of Langley in the mid 2000’s, followed by a senior emergency management position at BC Hydro. During this period she found the time to teach as a sessional instructor at Simon Fraser University’s School of Communications and completing her Masters degree in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management at the University of Leicester in the UK. 

After retiring from full time work, and taking time to travel, Sheena found her “happy place” during the COVID-19 pandemic, starting a part time position at Art’s Nursery in Surrey where she could pursue her passion for plants.

Sheena enjoyed traveling with her husband, children, children-in-law (Ashley and Paul), and her two grandchildren (Quinn and Maeve). She loved driving fast, hiking, scuba diving, drinking wine, spending time with her family and friends and telling others her opinions.

Sheena was a loyal friend and business colleague and put effort into each and every relationship. This was clearly apparent by all the notes and stories that her family received after her passing. She cared deeply for people, whether she knew them well or not, and she particularly made the effort to see or talk with those she felt close to. She demonstrated her love with passion and pride. She will be missed and will always be loved deeply by those she left behind.
